Time Management Tips – Why You Cannot Compare Money and Time

Category: Advices, Time management — admin @ 12:00 pm

“Do not waste time, for that is the stuff life is made of.”
Benjamin Franklin

timemanagement Time Management Tips Why You Cannot Compare Money and TimeTime management tips would skyrocket in popularity if they could reliably convert money into time. But since they can’t, make the most of these next few minutes by learning just how the time you have is infinitely more important than the money you’d like to have.

Time management tips sometimes refer to time as “the new money”, because time is now valued so highly. But you may also be tugged by temptations to invest much precious time to save just a few dollars. Read this article whenever you need support in affirming the true worth of your time.

Time is the ultimate irreplaceable resource

For all the efforts to compare time and money, you live best when you recognize that time and money differ dramatically. Even if you have temporarily run out of money, you can acquire more money, invest or save it, and draw on it later. Not so with time. When you run out of time, you run out of life.

Furthermore, time is just as perishable right now as it is when you draw your last breath. You can’t conjure an extra hour out of thin air on a busy day. This presents you with a serious responsibility: each day will end. And no matter how much money you own, you will someday run out of time.

Wasted hours kill life opportunities

This most serious casualty is often overlooked. When you seriously consider the worth of your brief life, it’s easier to recognize that wasting time can be tragic.

One of the best strategies for grasping the full potential of each day is to envision yourself on your deathbed. What time choices do you look back on with pleasure, pride and gratitude? Which fill you with remorse? What remains undone, and how do you feel about it?

Visualizing yourself at the end of your life is not a novel idea, but it’s underused. You can only capitalize on its benefits if you actually participate in the exercise, and as often as necessary. As you integrate its lessons, one conclusion starkly presents itself. When you “kill time”, you are killing a part of who you can be.

Even Wasted Time Can Create Value

Misspent time, clearly and compassionately understood, can be converted to priceless lessons. Lessons, of course, which retain their value only if you put them to work for you. All you need to do is commit to managing your time choices better, starting now.

While taking in time’s scarcity initially sounds grim, honoring time’s uniqueness is really a recipe for personal fulfillment. Difficult decisions become easier. As you learn to value what’s most important to you, the wisdom you develop helps you take important risks. In this way, you enlarge your life. And you enjoy the unfolding treasure of the new day.

Now, ask yourself: What is the next step you can take to start finding more time?

Control the Time Thief

Category: Advices, Time management — admin @ 12:00 pm

timeonmoney Control the Time ThiefJust a random thought. The most valuable thing any of us possess is time, yet we all waste it and do not consider using it to our advantage.

A lot of people talk about time management, this is a fallacy, because no one, however clever can manage time. We all start off each day with exactly the same amount and if we waste it or do not utilise it to our benefit, it is gone forever.

So having said that, what can we manage? Correct! Ourselves. We should therefore consider renaming time management, to US management.

It is amazing how many people are prepared to trade the time they spend with loved ones and friends for material gains. Once again I am not against getting hold of money to do the things you want to do,but I am against having this out of balance, so that you work to a point that you do not have time to spend with the important people in your life.

Every business person that I mentor has to agree to not work on weekends and to make sure that they keep relationships alive and well.

If you are now thinking that I have lost the plot and there is no way that you could rearrange things, please have a good look at the things that I call time thieves. There are many things in this category e.g answering your phone and dealing with that person immediately, even though you are in the middle of doing something else. Dealing with incoming emails as soon as they arrive even though you were writing to someone else. You get the idea, we are in an instant society and it does not allow you to plan things unless you are aware of the problems.

Just be honest with yourself and imagine what it would be like if you gave yourself two hours of uninterrupted time a day. How much could you achieve? Some people say that you achieve more in those two hours than you can in eight hours of a normal day, that is just allowing interruptions.

This is scary stuff. Why don’t you look at rearranging how you allow interruptions into your life and get back the time you are giving away to use with your family and friends.

I am going to continue this theme over the next few days giving ideas and observations to help you plan your days properly.

Imagine with just a little effort and planning, you can get back some of the most valuable thing we possess. This has nothing to do with managing time it is all about managing you.

Hope this gets you thinking

Seven Minutes to Productivity

Category: Advices, Time management — admin @ 12:00 pm

timeproductivity Seven Minutes to ProductivityWe all have something at work which we know needs tackling, it niggles away at us, but for various reasons, we keep putting off getting it  done.

It might be because we don’t want to/can’t face it/the thought of doing it fills us with dread, but yet the amount of times we keep thinking about it only serves to prove that it does need addressing!

How fantastic would it feel if this job was done and out of the way? How much lighter and fired up would you feel?  Then follow these steps …

  1. Identify something you’ve been putting off, but has been niggling you constantly in the back of your mind. A phone call; preparing some information; doing some research; arranging a meeting – whatever is the biggest niggle for you personally.
  2. Turn your phone, BlackBerry and laptop to silent, so you’re not distracted by phone calls, text messages or emails pinging into your inbox.
  3. Make a note of the time. Commit to spending the next 7 minutes on the task in hand, and focus solely on it. Scour the internet in your research; write down what you want to say on the phonecall; identify a time for the meeting and prepare the agenda, etc.
  4. At the end of 7 minutes, you have a choice. Do you continue with this task, or do you go back to what you were doing before? Statistics show that 9 times out of 10 you’ll continue, simply because you’ve made a start. In a nutshell, you get motivated by doing things, not thinking about them. Action gets you excited and action reveals opportunity.
  5. Repeat this twice more over the course of this week alone and you’ll be amazed how energized you feel as a result of it.

Rocket science? No.

Does it work? Absolutely.

Go for it – set your clock for 7 minutes to Productivity!

Procrastinating Must Be Stopped! Is it Possible?

Category: Advices, Time management — admin @ 12:00 pm

wordwork Procrastinating Must Be Stopped! Is it Possible?Procrastination is a disorder which can be physiological or psychological. Procrastination is when you leave your task undone and keep postponing it time and again for a later date. It could be a disorder or a habit. Many people suffer from the habit of procrastination and they are not sure that what exactly they are suffering from .A few people mistakenly feel that they are poor at managing time to get work done or they are just lazy. If they are procrastinators, then they have to be taught how to deal with the habit.

For stopping procrastination, it is necessary to recognize in which category of procrastination you fall in! There are several medical classifications of procrastination like light procrastinators and heavy procrastinators. If you are heavy procrastinator, then you should get help immediately. Once you understand this, then you can recognize and know when you are procrastinating. And then you will be able to overcome this problem.

There are few mission strategies to control procrastination. Let’s discuss them:

1. Lack of interest: If you don’t have any interests in the task then don’t take it. But if it is necessary to get the task done, then challenge yourself to do the task at any cost! Give yourself rewards on completion of the task like going out for dinner on the completion of project as a reward can motivate you.

2. Indecision: Some people are very poor at making decisions. They even can’t make simple decisions like when, how and where to start the task. Such people should allocate should set a specific time for themselves to take a decision like five minutes to set a time for the project, five minutes to draw out the first draft etc.

3. Lack of confidence: Some people delay their task as they think that they will not be able to meet society standards as they have poor self confidence. They do not want to face failure and are afraid of negative feedback and results to their efforts. Such people should concentrate on their abilities and the end results of the project so long as the project is completed successfully. They should remember that their colleagues would appreciate their work and their boss would give them bonuses for simply finishing the project irrespective of the standard. This will motivate them to get their task done with full confidence.

4. Environmental Strategies: If you like to work in an open environment then take outdoor projects. If you are working in a home office then do not let your family interrupt you. Think that you are sitting in front of your boss’s cabin and you can’t leave without his permission.

I hope these methods help you out.

Time Management Tips – 5 Ways Introverts Can Supercharge Their Productivity

Category: Advices, Time management — admin @ 12:00 pm

discourageadsense Time Management Tips 5 Ways Introverts Can Supercharge Their ProductivityTime management tips are the ultimate energy tools. To select the right tools for your energy type, take the quiz below. If you discover you are an introvert, prepare to magnify your effectiveness by using time strategies designed to capitalize on your unique attributes.

According to Marti Olsen Lani, author of The Introvert Advantage, introvert strengths include independence, capacity to work well in one-to-one situations, ability to concentrate closely on tasks, creativity, and capacity to analyze systems.

If you are introverted, your experience of time may differ dramatically from that of your extroverted colleagues. So apply your creativity and originality to making the most of time in ways that celebrate your uniqueness.

Quiz: Do You Possess an Introvert Time and Energy Temperament?

___ T/F: I think through what I need to say before speaking.
___ T/F: When working with others, I can run out of energy with no warning.
___ T/F: My creativity is fueled through solitude.

If you answer these questions with “True”, then the 5 tips in this article apply directly to you. Briefly stated, your introvert strength multiplies when you remove distractions and look inward. At the same time, you need to protect your energy in situations that extroverts find regenerating.

5 Ways Introverts Can Supercharge Their Productivity

  1. Estimate your “battery life” for group interchanges and plan accordingly. How long can you engage at top capacity in a large group situation? Plan how you can obtain ‘time outs’ to recharge your internal batteries before walking into challenging situations. (Introverts can find it difficult to monitor and safeguard their reserves while absorbed in demanding interchanges.) Your exit strategies may include volunteering for tasks that temporarily remove you from the fray, or that allow you to record rather than directly engage in interactions.
  2. Schedule private time between group activities whenever possible.Restorative sips of time are an excellent investment in your effectiveness. If a relaxed, solitary interlude is not possible, consider taking small breaks of five to ten minutes between meetings, if only to make photocopies or fetch supplies. While on your own, conduct a quick body scan and progressively relax tense muscles, while taking a few deep breaths.
  3. Structure collaborations as one-on-one interchanges whenever possible.Identify which individuals you work with most easily, and ask if they would be willing to serve as point persons to report findings to groups. Volunteer to cover responsibilities you find less taxing, in return. When you must discuss issues within a group, explore the possibilities of teleconferencing. This reduces the intensity of stimulus you are exposed to.
  4. Know your “solitary strengths” and capitalize on them.Invest your time in your areas of personal strength. The more detailed your understanding of how you can best contribute to group endeavors, the more capably you can engage in ways that don’t drain you.
  5. Commit to checking in as regularly as needed through email and notes. You can send memos with your comments and suggestions after meetings. Remember, your extroverted colleagues may feel stranded if you withdraw without providing a context.

Comprehension fuels creativity, so always be on the lookout for new possibilities as you explore your unique relationship with time.

So now, ask yourself: How can you customize your time use today to jump-start your personal productivity?

Working Less and Being MORE Productive

Category: Advices, Time management — admin @ 12:00 pm

Hammock Working Less and Being MORE ProductiveThere is a common misconception that a lot of people have that makes them think that the more hours they put in,  the better off they will be.  This is not always the case,  however.  There are many people who will put in 60 hours a week attempting to do as much as they can and if they handle their time better,  they would only need 40 hours to accomplish what they need to do.

The more efficient you are when you are at work,  the more time you will have for other things as well.  Everyone has the tendency to get caught up in the small things that take up too much time and it doesn’t have to be that way.

Here are a few tips to help you to be more efficient:

1.     Set up a planned work schedule. When you do things in a random manner,  it tends to eat away at your time.  When you schedule out what you need to accomplish,  you can make sure you use that time more wisely instead.

2.    Delegate as many tasks as possible. The more help you can get,  the better.  There is no use in trying to do every single thing.  Whether this means hiring an assistant or a professional service, you can free up quite a bit of time to do what you do best.

You cannot create more hours in the day.  But,  you can accomplish more in the hours that you do have when you manage yourself wisely.  This will allow you to be as effective and efficient as possible.
